Ward Upgrade Rule (Personal Expense Option):
Beneficiaries can opt for a higher category ward than entitled by paying the difference in room charges directly to the empanelled hospital. All internal investigations, medicines, and doctors' consultations continue to be billed at CGHS package rates.

Yes. If an employee entitled to Semi-Private Ward prefers a Private Room, they can do so by paying the difference in room rent directly to the hospital. However, all medical investigations, surgical procedures, and ICU charges will still be billed according to the approved CGHS package rates without surcharge.
What if both husband and wife are Central Government employees?
If both spouses are central government servants, only one spouse is required to pay the monthly CGHS subscription. A joint declaration is submitted to the department, and the other spouse and children are covered under that single primary card.
How does the cashless facility work for inpatient treatment?
Serving employees obtain an online or physical referral from a CGHS Wellness Centre Medical Officer for their diagnosed condition. Presenting this referral and the plastic CGHS card at any empanelled hospital ensures 100% cashless hospitalization, where the hospital bills the government directly through the UTI-ITSL portal.
